Having an annual flu vaccination is the most important measure you can take to prevent influenza and its complications. During the COVID-19 pandemic there were fewer cases of the influenza virus (hand hygiene—who knew!?) but with the reopening of borders and the easing of some restrictions a resurgence of influenza is expected in the 2022 season.
Flu vaccination is recommended for all people over the age of 6 months, it is free for children aged 6 months to 4 years old, adults aged 65 and over and for people with certain medical conditions. It is important to note if you are in the over 65 age bracket that the vaccine for this age group contains an adjuvant which serves to increase the body’s immune response so please make sure that this is the vaccine you receive in order to get the best protection against seasonal flu.
