Dr Peter Hartley

*Not taking on new patients

Norton Summit Medical Centre was opened in 1987 by Dr Peter Hartley. Since then, together with his wife Dr Jeni Hartley, he has worked hard to develop a high-quality family medical practice.

Peter brings bring an empathic common-sense  approach to health concerns as well as his characteristic kindness, warmth, and humour to the team. He has a wide range of procedural skills and interests including musculoskeletal medicine, sports injuries, nutritional medicine, and general health & wellbeing.

He is committed to sharing his expertise with the next generation of medical professionals as an experienced GP training supervisor and has a long history of surgical assisting at Sportsmed Adelaide.

Having a strong interest in rural medicine means Peter can occasionally be away from the practice offering his medical expertise to regional communities (preferably with a golf course or by the beach!).

Outside medicine he frequently visits Kangaroo Island where he can unwind by surfing, fishing and listening to music.

Dr Jeni Hartley

Dr Jeni Hartley has over 30 years of experience and interest in all aspects of general practice, particularly preventative medicine, skin disorders, women’s and children’s health, and family planning.

Jeni is dedicated to listening to her patients, understanding their stories, and working with them to find ways to improve their health and wellbeing.

When not consulting, Jeni is busy looking after her grandchildren, helping her children out with house renovations, playing tennis, drinking tea, and engaging family and friends in highly competitive card games.

Dr Alex Main

Dr Main entered medical school to pursue general practice, impressed by the broad skill set of GPs.

For Alex, what makes medicine enjoyable and sustains his interest, is forging long-term relationships with patients, seeing the impact he has on his patients’ lives, and constant intellectual stimulation – all of which are offered by the GP specialty.

Prior to entering general practice Alex worked extensively in surgery and cardiology. He enjoys all aspects of general practice but particularly enjoys complex medicine, dermatology and adolescent health. He also has an interest in medical education and is a medical mediator with the RACGP Practice Experience Program and continues to enjoy working regular shifts in emergency medicine.

Alex lives in Norton Summit with his family and has interests in running, music and pottering around his terraced garden.

Dr Joanna McLeod

Dr McLeod chose medicine as a career because she felt it was a job she would be happy doing for a long time; it combined working with people, contributing to the local community, and would be a career in which she could excel in a variety of special interest areas.

“Having worked for a couple of years at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, I have a lot of experience treating paediatrics. I love working with children and their families, not only because of my experience, but also because I have a young family of my own. I also have a special interest in women’s health, preventative health, lifestyle modification, and support for those wanting to improve their risk factors for disease, such as weight loss, exercise, sleep, and stress management."

When Dr McLeod isn’t working, she leads a busy life with her two young daughters in the Adelaide Hills. She enjoys travelling, running and general fitness, cooking (excessively vegetable-laden foods are her specialty!), and spending time with her family and friends.
